About Us
St Winnold Lodge
No. 3955 — Downham Market, Norfolk
St Winnold Lodge has been meeting in Downham Market since 1919. Not much has changed.
Men from all walks of life, different jobs, backgrounds, and beliefs, sharing a formal dinner and making commitments to each other about how they want to live. We meet in our own hall, a former Baptist chapel that the lodge has owned since 1953.
Every year we march through Downham Market on Remembrance Sunday in full regalia, carrying a poppy wreath. The lodge is part of this town.

“I was sceptical. I stayed for the friendships.”
A brief history
The lodge was warranted on 7th April 1919 and consecrated on 30th July 1919 at Downham Market Town Hall. Seven founding Masons, drawn from lodges in King's Lynn and Ely as well as local members, established what would become a fixture of the town's civic life.
We take our name from St Winnold, a sixth-century abbot who founded a priory at Wereham, just three miles from Downham Market. His fair was one of the largest horse fairs in England, and his name lives on in our crest, our motto, and our meeting place.
We are part of the Grand Province of Norfolk and work Emulation Ritual, one of the most respected workings in English Craft Masonry.
